I Heart Handmade

It's gifting time and I love making handmade gifts. I have two special friends that got these.
A cover for their featherweights...

and labels.
The pattern for the sewing machine cover came from a new book, I Heart Patchwork. It is worth every penny. It has some beautiful projects in it. Mine is full of pages marked with post-its of things I want to make.

And I have a cute little niece that is going to get a little puppy made from Heather Bailey's new Nicey Jane fabric. I know a cute little boy that wants one now, too.

Snowday = Sewday!

It might be snowy outside, but inside it is all sewing! I have been so covered up making things for others that it feels like it has been ages since I quilted. But this weekend, it was like all the stars aligned and created a perfect storm for sewing. It snowed and I was stuck in the house, I finished up all my sewing for customers, and I have this beautiful fabric waiting to be made into something. Perfect.
I also finally got the last Christmas stocking made. I finished it up last night and not a moment too soon. My parents are going to deliver it to my niece today. This will make the 18th Christmas stocking I've completed for my family. My aunt made stockings for the whole family when I was little. Over the years it has become harder for her to keep up with all the additions to the family, so I learned to knit specifically to carry on the tradition for our family. With every marriage and birth, there comes a stocking. It is sometimes difficult to get motivated to keep making them, but my mom doesn't ask for much and I know how important this tradition is to her, so I'm glad to carry it on. I also know that hanging my son's, husband's and my stocking is one of my favorite things at Christmas and hopefully it is for the family I've made them for.

White Christmas...Kinda!

We live in the South, so this is probably about the closest we will get to a White Christmas. I don't remember the last time we had the white stuff on the ground at the same time we had Christmas decorations out. So....
Christmas Decorations + Snow = White Christmas

What Can I Say... It's Christmas Time.

And you know what that means....millions of things to get done. I have been really slack about posting on my blog because I have been soooooo covered up with things to get done before Christmas gets here. Every year I say I will be more prepared, but every year, that never quite happens. I'm sure none of you would understand that!?! (yeah, right.)
Well, I have tons of things that I have sewn in the last couple of weeks, but I thought today I would share with you some pics of a good ol' redneck Christmas parade that happens every year right here in my little town. (Now, I know you think I'm making fun, but believe me, this city girl gone country is right here in the middle of it all and enjoys every minute of it.)

Of course, there is the Davie County Hunter Education Float...

What seems like every person with a four-wheeler in Davie County...

The all important, monster truck with big tie-eeers...

Festive Bucky...

And a Bubba! (with a horse poop shovel)
I know, it sounds like a bad Jeff Foxworthy's version of the 12 Days of Christmas. But it's not. It's the Advance Christmas Parade..... and I loved every minute of it.
